Streaming music throughout the house
Streaming audio throughout your entire house will be relatively expensive. You will need to buy a media hub for each location where you want music. You also need speakers to attach to the hubs.
On a scale of 1 to 10, setting up these systems is about a 4. But understanding them comes in at 11. Sorting out all these options is not easy.
A media hub is a piece of hardware. It is networked to a computer, either wirelessly or via Ethernet (cables). The hub takes music files from the computer. It plays them, either through an amplifier or directly through powered speakers.
There is one more, very serious complication. Any system you buy cannot necessarily play copy-protected music. It is important to match the system to your favorite store. Or you might just change your store. Worst of all, nothing works with music files from iTunes.
You sent a list of equipment you already own. You have a stereo and several boom boxes. You can hook a media hub up to your stereo. You can connect media hubs to the boom boxes if they have auxiliary inputs. A boom box might operate as both an amplifier and speakers. That would save you money. That will be important, because you want a 10-room system.
