Facebook’s new vaccination tool
Social media giant Facebook often promotes citizen actions and movements. The company this week launched a new online tool to find vaccination sites near you in the U.S. By partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital and the CDC, it supports 71 languages and will roll it out to other countries.
Facebook’s COVID-19 Information Center hosts a wealth of information on the virus and features posts from WHO, CDC and other reputable sources. Using the information center tool, you can see hours of operation, contact info and links to make an appointment.
The COVID-19 Information Center is also available on Instagram globally. It provides the latest information about the virus from local health ministries and the World Health Organization.
“By working closely with national and global health authorities and using our scale to reach people quickly, we’re doing our part to help people get credible information, get vaccinated and come back together safely,” Facebook said in a blog post.
To find a site, open the Facebook app on your smartphone. Tap the three-line menu on the bottom right, followed by See More > COVID-19 Information Center > Find a COVID-19 Vaccine.
NBC News’ Plan Your Vaccination
NBC News launched its own informational portal as an easy way for people to find out if they qualify for the vaccine. By simply choosing your state, occupation, age and other factors, results will be available within seconds.
The list of occupations includes essential workers, so if you are not in one of those professions, you are probably not eligible yet. However, there is an option to select Other (non-essential) occupations, and you could be eligible there.
Once you select your state, you’ll see a list of vaccination centers by scrolling down the page. It includes links, telephone numbers and addresses.
CDC’s VaccineFinder
Sometimes it is better to go straight to the source. The Center for Disease Control partnered with Boston Children’s Hospital to develop VaccineFinder. It’s a free online tool where you can search for pharmacies and providers that offer vaccinations.
At the time of writing, VaccineFinder is temporarily suspending information on flu and routine vaccination services. That means a big push for COVID vaccine efforts across all states.
