7 things you should be doing with your Amazon Prime account
Do you think you’re taking full advantage of your Amazon Prime membership? Chances are you’re missing out on some of the coolest features that come with it.
Amazon offers tons of items and features for Prime members that might go under the radar. You may have heard of some of them but there are a few off the beaten path. After all, Amazon owns many companies that you might not know about.
Here are some familiar and some little-known services and features exclusively for Prime members. A few of these services may surprise and delight you.
Try before you buy
Buying clothes online can be a dicey proposition. What looks great on the screen may look awful in real life. Lucky for Amazon Prime members, they have access to Prime Wardrobe.
Pick between five and eight items of clothing and accessories and they will be delivered to your home. If you like some of the items, keep them. If you don’t, just ship them back to Amazon at no cost. You’ll only be charged for the clothes you keep.
A gamer’s paradise
Twitch originally focused on video games, but it now includes streams dedicated to art, music, talk shows and some TV series. As a Prime member, you just link your Amazon account to Twitch at no additional cost.
That’s when you get the perks. You get free access to select games and content, you receive a free subscription to a new web channel each month, get exclusive emoticons, enter chats and extend your broadcast storage to 60 days instead of the standard 14 days.
Silly, fun and good deals
Woot is a whimsical site owned by Amazon. It’s known for its great deals and silly jokes. It also offers Lightning Deals from Amazon and if you’re a Prime member you get a 30-minute head start on the deal.
The site offers steep discounts on HDTVs, headphones, laptops and more. If you log in to Woot through your Amazon Prime account, you get free shipping on everything. Plus, don’t forget Woot’s famous Bag of Crap — a bunch of random stuff put into a box. Buy it for $10 when available and prepare to be surprised.
Who’s that actor?
Many people don’t know that Amazon owns the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). Through that ownership, Amazon developed X-Ray, an exclusive feature on Prime Video. You may already be using X-Ray without even knowing it.
To access X-Ray, tap your tablet screen, click “up” on your TV remote or move your cursor while the video is playing. What do you get? Information on the actors, trivia and even a character bio, which comes in handy when watching a show with a large cast such as “Game of Thrones.”
Make reading fun for kids
This is a great way to get your kids interested in reading at an early age. Exclusively for Prime members, parents can sign up to get a Prime Book Box for Kids.
The books are carefully selected based on a child’s age, reviews and parent’s member profile. An email will tell you what books will be included in each box you receive and you can swap them out for other titles. You can also choose how often you want the book box delivered. Each box costs $22.99 and shipping is free.
Whole Foods offers Prime discounts
Amazon, of course, owns Whole Foods Market, which means great deals for Prime members. You can find the deals online or in the store.
In the store, a yellow sign means Prime members get an additional 10% off items that are already on sale. A blue sign means special deals only available to Prime members. To get your savings, download the Whole Foods Market app for iPhone and Android and scan your Prime code at checkout.
Your delivery options are expanding
The delivery wars among Amazon, Walmart and Target are heating up, and that’s good news for Prime members. Prime members have always received free shipping, but their options on how soon they can get a product have expanded.
As a Prime member, you can now get free same-day delivery or free one-day shipping. Currently, the same-day delivery option is limited to certain items in certain areas. But Amazon plans to partner with a number of stores to expand its item selection and reach.
