Despite what Apple users may think, there are a lot of people out there who prefer Android. And they will be excited to find out that the newest update, Android 12, is right around the corner. Tap or click here to see the best smartphone alternatives to Apple and Samsung.
Unfortunately, unlike iPhones, the Android 12 update doesn’t automatically go out to all devices at the same time. Since there are so many different types of devices that have the Android platform, updates are device-specific.
Let’s look at the new features available on Android 12, what’s available now and when your device might get the update.
What’s in the new Android 12 update
Apple has given Android some large shoes to fill! Thankfully Android is ready to give Apple a run for its money.
Android 12 is the biggest update in recent history and includes updates to text message features, security and privacy, and even a new dashboard, depending on your device.

One of the most incredible new features? The remote control. Gone are the days of having 14 different remote controls to change various electronics. Your Android phone can now do it for you.
A remote control is baked into the OS. The on-screen keyboard will also speed up typing when usernames or passwords are required. It will work on more than 80 million Android TV OS devices, including Google TV.
Another appreciated update is the new privacy dashboard, similar to iPhones’ newest security update, though not as thorough. The new dashboard allows you to see who is seeing your data and, in some cases, allows you to decide if you want to share it at all.
For those looking for nuances, the newest emoji updates will have you jumping for joy. Using a recently rolled feature, Android keeps track of your most-used emojis and offers suggestions based on your messages and previous choices.
In an attempt to keep up with changing technology, you’ll also notice an uptick in apps that allow you to use them hands-free, with Android 12’s newest voice-enabled features.
It is important to note that certain parts of the newest Android 12 update will be device-specific. For complete details on the newest update, tap or click here.
Available in Beta
As of right now, the Beta version is available for some, but we recommend that you wait before downloading the new update. Why?
Beta versions are released for companies to test out their newest updates and features, and that comes with bugs and other issues that even Android might not be aware of yet.
