How well do you know your favorite celebrities? Could you pick them out of a crowd of people? Humans are naturally skilled at recognizing faces thanks to how our brains are wired. But what happens when you fuse two different faces together? These viral photos might make your mind short-circuit.A French student going by Morphy_me on Instagram has captured the imagination of users with his creative edits of celebrity faces. Morphy_me takes two celebrity headshots and combines them to make uncanny faces that are just real enough to throw you off. Can you guess the faces that make up these mashups? We’ve listed our picks from Morphy_me’s account along with some hints to help you. The answers are at the end of the article, but no peeking!

Which celebrities can you spot in these fusions?

See how many you can get right. If you get more than five, you might want to grab a camera and call TMZ.This avenging super-spy has a poker face that could shame James Bond. This fusion has a penchant for colorful language, lightsaber battles, and crawling through air ducts. The haters gonna hate, hate, hate on this fusion and her famous family. If only they could “keep up.”This fusion has fought in World War II, been stranded on Mars, and started an underground boxing ring. “How do ya like them apples?”It’s always Spring Break for this dragon-mother, who loves her babies “like a love song.”

Did you guess correctly?

Here’s the celebrities that made each fusion.

  1. Scarlett Johansson/Lady Gaga
  2. Samuel L. Jackson/Bruce Willis
  3. Taylor Swift/Kendall Jenner
  4. Brad Pitt/Matt Damon
  5. Selena Gomez/Emilia Clarke

How did you do?You may be surprised at the results, but there’s real science behind our affinity for faces. Due to how the visual part of our brain maps face structures, it’s easy to recognize our friends and family from a crowd of people. This handy function can be easily thrown off by patterns with a similar shape, causing us to see illusions of faces where there are none, such as the Face on Mars or the Vase Illusion. This phenomenon is called “pareidolia.”When we fuse two familiar faces together, the resulting image throws off our sense of recognition — which can make identifying the original faces even trickier. If you were able to pick them out easily, be proud of yourself. Your sense for faces is more highly developed than average. That’s absolutely something to smile about.
