iPhone 11 camera tips and tricks: Get the most out of Apple’s new features
If you haven’t already heard, or seen the numerous commercials, the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have been released. While the iPhone 11 features a wide range of new enhancements, its camera is what definitely sets it apart from its predecessors.
All three iPhones come fitted with upgraded cameras. From the dual lens camera on the iPhone 11 model, to the triple camera lens on the 11 Pro, users can get more out of their photo and video experiences.
Since the phone has only been out for a short time, most have yet to explore or take advantage of the new camera features. So, here’s a brief rundown of what the new camera is capable of and how you can get the most out of it’s features.
What can the iPhone 11 cameras do?
The triple cameras fitted on the phone makes it impossible for you to miss or cut off your subject, no matter how close or far you are. Going from telephoto, to wide to ultra-wide means you have 4 times the optical zoom range for one shot. This means you can stand in the same spot and take three different photos, using the three different zoom settings and make it appear as if they were taken from different distances.
For the selfie takers among you, both the iPhone 11 and 11 pro feature 12 MP front-facing cameras. By turning the phone horizontally, the camera will automatically zoom out and take a 12 MP selfie to fit everyone in the frame.
Night mode
Though there are several impressive new capabilities added to the iPhone’s camera, there are a few subtle features that are sure to enhance your overall experience. Night Mode is bound to become an amateur photographer’s new best friend. The Night Mode feature is available across all three phones and automatically turns on in low-light settings.
By prompting you to hold a shot for up to three additional seconds, the camera takes a longer exposure, which lets more light into the image. This means you no longer need to turn on that annoying flash or edit your photos later to enhance colors and brightness. Night Mode does it all for you.
Improved video resolution
Prefer videos over photos? You’ll love this. All three phones have cameras that shoot video in 4K resolution at 60 fps (frames per second). Every video you shoot captures smooth and swift motion, no matter what your subject is doing. Whether it’s running, jumping or just briskly walking, the camera will capture every movement and make your videos as fluid as possible.
Additionally, Apple’s new editing tools allow you to chop, alter and enhance your videos as needed — just like you would for a still photo.
There’s another feature now available, which allows you to easily switch between photo and video taking capabilities.
So, if you find yourself taking a photo, and right in the middle of it something amazing happens, just hold down the camera button and the camera will automatically begin to record. Apple has also made an effort to prevent shifts in exposure and color tone when switching between the two modes.
If you think the improved video quality is all the iPhone 11 offers, you’d be wrong. There’s also a new audio zoom feature. This focuses on whatever sounds are coming from the subject you’re pointing the camera at. So no more great videos but lousy audio. With the iPhone 11, you can have the best of both worlds.
