These recalled pickup trucks may have started house fires

Now, hundreds of thousands of pickup trucks are being recalled due to dangerous fire risks. A flaw in some models has led to house fires while being parked inside a garage.

300K Ram trucks recalled due to fire risks

Vehicle maker Stellantis, responsible for manufacturing brands such as Citroen, Chrysler and Dodge, has warned drivers of particular Ram pickup trucks. The company is recalling over 300,000 vehicles that need to have an electrical connection replaced.

According to the company, “An investigation discovered the intake heater-grid relays on certain vehicles might exhibit overheating. In rare instances, this condition may pose a fire risk.” Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.

However, speculation is that the problem is responsible for at least six house fires. In five cases, the vehicles were turned on, while the ignition was switched off in the other case.

The affected vehicles are:

Stellantis explains that the recall only encompasses vehicles equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and prior-generation heater-grid relays. 

What to do if you own one of these recalled Ram trucks

While the chance of a fire is low, the company urges owners to park their vehicles outside, not in a garage. Notification letters with recall details will be sent to customers next month.

The recall includes about 22,000 vehicles in Canada and 12,000 outside North America.
