Vehicle recalls: Dodge Rams, Chevys, Chryslers and more
Many vehicles have been recalled this year, but manufacturers aren’t entirely done issuing safety notices. More than 5 million vehicles were impacted over six months, but another 2 million are being added to the list.
In what will hopefully be the last recall of 2022, the issues span from airbag problems to tailgates not latching properly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also warned not to drive certain vehicles.
Read on to see which automobiles are included and what you can do about it if you own any impacted models.
Here’s the backstory
If you drive a specific Dodge Ram truck, there is a possibility that your tailgate has a misaligned striker. Fiat Chrysler warned that some tailgates don’t latch properly, leading to them opening while driving. The impacted models are:
- 2019-22 Ram 1500.
- 2019-22 Dodge Ram 2500.
- 2019-2022 Dodge Ram 3500.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Jan. 27, 2023. You may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is ZB8.
For more information on this recall, see the NHTSA website. About 1.4 million vehicles are part of this recall, the largest of the new notifications.
More Takata airbag issues
There is also a severe do not drive warning for 10 other Dodge models. They have a dangerous problem with the installed Takata airbags, where a third person has died from the airbags exploding.
According to the NHTSA, long-term exposure to high heat and humidity can cause these airbags to explode when deployed.
The affected models are:
- 2005-10 Dodge Magnums, Chargers and Challengers.
- 2005-10 Chrysler 300s.
For more information on this recall, see the NHTSA’s warning. Just under 300,000 vehicles form part of this recall and are the most dangerous on the list.
But the airbag recall isn’t just for the vehicles listed here. Takata airbags have been installed in millions of cars.
NHTSA is urging ALL vehicle owners to immediately check to see if their automobile has an open Takata airbag recall. If it does, contact your dealership to schedule a free repair ASAP and follow any warnings from the vehicle manufacturer. Dealerships will work with you to arrange ways to get your vehicle in for repair.
As with any recall, you must take your vehicle to an authorized dealer for an inspection. If it is found that your car is faulty, it is usually repaired free of charge. You should also keep an eye on the NHTSA website for the latest recalls.
The website is easy to navigate. You only need to submit your vehicle’s year, make and model, or VIN. It then shows you any issue relating to your car and which actions you must take.
