The average time it takes for emergency medical services to reach you is about seven minutes. That’s if you live in a populated area. Move further away from the hustle and bustle, and response times can double to nearly 14 minutes. Tap or click here for 18 items that help you survive any emergency.

There is also what is known as the “golden hour,” where traumatic injuries and patients need to be treated within the first hour to reduce the chances of death. The debate is still ongoing if the golden hour exists. But the point is, the faster you get help, the better your chances of survival.

Depending on where you live, calls to 911 could put you through to an understaffed department. This will no doubt cause a delay in EMS dispatch. But what if there was a faster way to get you or your elderly loved ones help from the correct department? Now there is.

Rescu is only an app away

Allowing you to contact fire, police or EMTs in just two taps, the Rescu app aims to take the burden off emergency dispatchers around the country. The app is available for iOS and Android phones and alerts emergency contacts that you are in trouble.

The Rescu app can also be incorporated into your home alarm system, and responders can check up on any home alarms even when you are outside the local calling area. In case there is an intruder in your home, the app can silently send for help.

In some situations, like a home invasion, you can’t always clearly tell responders where you are. For that, Rescu can store up to four pre-registered addresses, or it can use your device’s GPS function to locate you.

Here’s how Rescu works

The best feature of the app is how easy it is to get help. Here’s how to use it:

On the next screen, you can see a detailed summary of the actions. This includes which service has been dispatched, the time of the alert and which emergency contacts from your list have been notified. There are also options to cancel the dispatch or phone directly if you have more information to provide.

The Rescu app has been so helpful that over 30,000 agencies in the U.S. are currently using it. It is available in two subscription options: $7 a month or $59 per year. You might be eligible for up to a 20% discount on your homeowner’s insurance policy by using the app.
