Are you interested in stepping things up? You’re in luck. Read on for wireless video doorbell tips.
How to install a wireless video doorbell
Hardwired video doorbells rely on wiring to transmit the video feed and power the device. Wireless video doorbells preclude the need for both with batteries (or sometimes alternative power sources, like solar power) and a wireless connection to your smartphone and computer.
The most challenging part of your doorbell cam installation will likely be mounting it. While a drill is probably the most secure, permanent option, it’s not your only option. No-drill mounts or tape can also be used, but your mileage may vary.
If you are using a drill bit, you can follow these general instructions:
- Insert the battery into the device.
- Use the device, mounting bracket or any included guides to mark where you’re going to hang it with a pencil, leveling it with a bubble leveler.
- Drill holes into the proper spots. NOTE: Some wireless doorbells can be mounted without drilling.
- Add your anchors (if applicable).
- Use the remaining screws to mount the device or bracket.
Ring wireless doorbell cameras include a security screw to keep people from tampering with the battery. Refer to the instructions included to ensure you haven’t forgotten anything. The majority of wireless doorbell cameras will include guidelines for height and placement. Be sure to follow these carefully.
Should you buy a wireless video doorbell?
We love brands like Ring because they allow you to monitor your home, even if you have no existing home security system. It might make package thieves a thing of the past for your household. A wireless model will even continue recording even if the power goes out.
