Ultra-fast 5G network expands to even more cities
5G is coming — but is your city ready for it? Sadly, the answer for most of us has been a resounding “No.” As a new wireless standard, the infrastructure for 5G is still being developed around the country by the biggest names in telecom. What many people don’t know, however, is that a great deal of progress has been made to bring 5G to the masses. And according to industry experts, it’s almost ready for launch!
AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint have all been vying for territory in the scramble for 5G. And with a self-imposed deadline of 2020 set by some of these companies, consumers are set to reap the benefits much sooner than they might have expected.
A number of new cities are set to launch 5G in the coming months. Learn which American cities are next on the list to join the upcoming wireless revolution — and see if it might be time for you to get a 5G phone of your own. The speed must be seen to be believed!
5G now available in major cities across America
Verizon previously set a 2020 deadline for itself when it came to rolling out its very own 5G network. And so far, they’re right on track to meet that goal!
By next year, the company plans to have installed the new wireless standard in 30 cities across the country — and in the past month, Verizon has managed to add Atlanta, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Washington DC to its already impressive portfolio.
But Verizon is far from the only company to be stepping up the game in terms of 5G availability. In the coming months, AT&T plans to add Chicago, Cleveland, and Minneapolis to its own 5G program.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile and Sprint (soon to be one network) are venturing into the nation’s two biggest cities with their own 5G infrastructure in Los Angeles and New York.
Availability will initially be limited to certain public areas in compatible cities — but once the infrastructure is up and running, service will only continue to grow from there.
Do keep in mind, however, that in order to enjoy the benefits of 5G, you will need a 5G compatible phone that can connect to this new kind of network. Only then can you take advantage of the new system’s unearthly data speeds and benefits.
Is 5G coming to my city?
Each of the carriers have their own plans and forecasts for the next cities to receive a 5G update. We’ve included the information that’s currently available regarding upcoming installations, but if you don’t see your city just yet, that doesn’t mean 5G won’t be coming eventually.
Just like how 4G rolled out in stages across the country, the same will occur with 5G. The deciding factor, inevitably, will be how many people choose to start using 5G compatible phones.
