5 killer Amazon promotions: Free Prime, Amazon Music and more

December 11, 2020

Every year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are typically the best days to save big at Amazon. But it’s not just about the deals on tech and other gifts on your shopping list. You might not know it, but Amazon offers promotional add-ons that end up saving you even more money, like the list below.

1. 3 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for free

There are plenty of music streaming services available to choose from, so Amazon is trying to entice new subscribers with a three-month free trial of Amazon Music Unlimited. When you sign up, you’ll have unlimited, ad-free access to any song on Amazon Music – which is currently around 70 million tracks.

The trial period is usually one month, but the extra two months have been added on for a limited time only. To sign up, you’ll need to have a payment method on file for the monthly $9.99 fee after your trial. If you don’t want to keep it, make sure to cancel before the free trial expires.

2. 50% off a Prime with an EBT or Medicaid card

Amazon Prime is the pinnacle of any service they offer, as it includes free delivery, access to streaming, and exclusive discounts. The regular monthly price of $12.99 might be a bit steep, but for carriers of an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) or Medicaid card, Amazon slashed the price in half to $5.99 a month.

After the 50% discount has been applied for SNAP, WIC, TANF and Medicaid cardholders, you’ll receive free two-day delivery, unlimited access to Kindle e-books and more. There are two conditions to keep in mind: you can only pay the $5.99 fee for a maximum of 48 months, and you will need to qualify every 12 months.

3. Amazon Kids+ 3-month Family Plan for $2.99

Formerly called FreeTime Unlimited, Amazon Kids+ has been steeply discounted from $9.99 a month to a mere $2.99 for three months.

The offer is valid for a Family Plan of Amazon Kids+, which means you can add up to four children to the account. The plan gives them access to child-friendly books, apps, videos, music and other educational tools.

As the main member, you get access to the Amazon Parent Dashboard to set learning goals, time limits or see what your child has been busy with. After the initial three months, the plan will auto-renew at the regular $9.99 so be sure to cancel before it expires.

4. 6 months of Amazon Music Unlimited free when you buy an Echo

Why not spoil a loved one with a shiny new Amazon Echo this Christmas? To sweeten the deal, Amazon will throw in a six months free trial to the Amazon Music Unlimited Individual Plan. That’s a saving of just over $59!

The offer is only available on selected Echo models though, and only to new subscribers of the streaming service. The models covered in this promo are the Echo (4th Gen), Echo Dot (4th Gen), Echo Dot (4th Gen) Kids Edition, Echo Show (2nd Gen), Echo Buds and the Echo Auto.

As with all Amazon service subscriptions, this one will auto-renew after the trial period at the regular price of $9.99 a month, unless you cancel.

5. Free unlimited Kindle books with Prime Reading

There is something special about the smell of a new book (also called bibliosmia), but there is no denying that Kindle is great value for money.

As an Amazon Prime member (which is $12.99 a month), you plan includes unlimited Kindle books as part of Prime Reading. It must be noted though that this is not part of Kindle Unlimited, and there are just over 2000 selected books available on Prime Reading.

Not sure which e-reader you should buy? We compared Amazon Kindles to help.

You also don’t need a Kindle device to read the selection of books, comics, magazines or Kindle Singles, as it integrates with the iOS and Android Kindle apps.

We may receive a commission when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.
