Save money whenever you’re taking Uber

Don’t have a car? No problem. On vacation with no rental car? No worries. Lacking a designated driver? Not an issue. Uber is just a tap away.

Like anything in life, if we’re able to get a discount, all the better. Typically, discounts haven’t been available with traditional cab rides. But that’s not the case with Uber. We’ve found a few ways that’ll save you some money the next time you take an Uber ride.

Visa Local Offers

Uber has reintroduced Visa Local Offers, allowing U.S. riders the chance to earn Uber credits by spending at local restaurants, businesses and shops with the U.S. issued Visa card on their Uber account. You must have this and the latest version of the Uber app in order to enroll in Visa Local Offers.

With the Uber app, you can browse through thousands of offers from featured merchants without having to worry about promo codes or coupons. Some of the national merchants include Dunkin’ Donuts, Neiman Marcus, Regal Cinemas, Steak ’n Shake, Walgreens and Wingstop.

Once you’re enrolled in the Visa Local Offers program, you’ll immediately start earning Uber credits.

Once your card is added, all you need to do to get started is to open your Uber app and tap the bottom of the screen to look for messages. Scroll down to the ‘Visa Local Offers’ message and hit ‘Get Started’ and then tap ‘Count Me In.’ (For more information, click here.)

Referral links

Another easy way to save cash on an Uber ride is to sign up with a referral link. You’ll get $5 off your first four rides. If you’re already a member, why not let your friends and family know so they can earn more credits when they sign up?

Referrals work when Uber users invite friends and family to use the ride service. And, it’s a win/win situation. The people you refer can use the referral code to get a free ride (up to $10), and you get $5 per referral. You could even win an extra $400 – $1,000 per week if you’ve referred the most people. Just keep in mind, the people you refer must take their first ride for you to get the credit. (For more information on Uber’s Rider Referral Program, click here.)
