Apple Intelligence isn’t free after all

💸 Apple Intelligence isn’t free after all: Case in point, ChatGPT is being integrated into iOS and macOS to boost features like Siri. You’ll either deal with usage limits or have to shell out $19.99 a month for a ChatGPT Plus subscription. Bummer, especially when Google and Samsung’s AI tools are free … well, for now.

Are your apps spying on you? Check your phone's privacy report

There’s an easy-to-miss tool built right into your phone that shows you which apps access your microphone, camera, location data and everything else.

Don’t like what you see? Adjust the app’s permissions (I’ll show you how) or delete the app entirely. Let’s take a close look at Apple’s iPhone Privacy Report and the Android Privacy Dashboard.

Because we all want to hear, ‘Wow, you look great’

I do my best to eat enough protein, get in my veggies and drink lots of water. I’m all about high-quality supplements, too, for things that are hard to get through good habits alone. I’ve been taking collagen for years, and it’s scientifically proven to improve not just how you look but also how you feel.

Want to lock an app on your iPhone? It’s easy if you’re running iOS 18. Press and hold the app icon > Menu > Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode). That’s it.

60-plus hours a week

Time millennials spend sitting on their butts between work and their couch potato lifestyle. That’s accelerating their biological clocks and increasing their risk of heart disease. You’ve got to move it, move it!

My top password manager pick has an A+ security feature built in

But there’s a smarter way to protect your online accounts — using a trusted password manager like NordPass.

Remembering complex, unique passwords for every single account is practically impossible. If you’re like most people, you probably end up reusing passwords or writing them down somewhere, which isn’t your best bet if you value security.

👁️‍🗨️ Your eyes only: Android 15 lets you hide apps in a secure folder. Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Private space > Set up. (For added security, you’ll see the option to create a new Google account, but you don’t have to.) Choose your authentication method, then tap Use screen lock for your phone’s default method or Choose new lock to set up a new one. Press Done.

Read me: On a Kindle, it’s a pain to get to the home screen. With a book open, tap the top of the screen > back arrow > Home. From the Kindle store, hit the X icon > Home. FYI, if your Kindle is old, look for a house icon (top left of the screen) or even a physical home button.

⏊ Mac pro user tip: If you’re a link hoarder, try this Safari trick. Open Settings > Advanced > Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage. Now you can sail through the links on whatever page you’re on. To do it, hit Tab on your keyboard to highlight a link and Enter to open it. Cmd + Enter opens the link in a new tab. Maybe this will make Christmas shopping less painful … maybe.

Who asked for this? If you don’t like how Microsoft put the Start menu for Windows 11 in the middle of the screen, move it back to its original home on the left. Head to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Crisis averted!

🖊️ Butt out: Writing Tools is Apple’s new AI that cleans up text in any app. If that creeps you out or it’s just annoying, switch it off. Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions. Now tap Intelligence & Siri > Writing Tools > Don’t Allow. Heads-up, this only applies to iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
